This course explores the environmental movement from 1800 to 2016 – the Industrial Revolution, the Robber Barons and the influences of Thoreau, Muir, and Roosevelt. We will learn how the government became involved in the preservation of the natural world, and how the efforts of the Sierra Club, the Land Trust, and even LearningQUEST have had an effect.

Optional: The third session, on April 26, is a 3-hour hike (moderately challenging) on the Land Trust property, a Huntsville gem.  Details on the meeting location and the time will be given in class.

Required for the hike: Fill out a waiver form and bring it to the hike. You must be able to hike 2.2 miles.
