Instructor: Marie Held
Great Conversations 5 is an anthology of fifteen classic and contemporary selections. This term we will read selections based on the following eight themes: 1) The Search for Truth, 2) Artistic Creativity, 3) Justice and Punishment, 4) The Individual and the Civic World, 5) The Individual and Culture, 6) Transgression, 7) The Dimensions of Imaginations, and 8) Governance. We will read one selection each week and discuss the author, the time period in which the piece is written, and relevance in today’s world. After reading all the selections in the themes (see page 406 in recommended text), we will discuss how the selections relate to one another. Since there is a new selection each week, prior attendance is not a handicap for the week’s selection.
