This course provides the basics of numismatics, the study or collection of currency, including coins, tokens, paper money, and related objects. Based upon our experience in coin club membership, we will address the most common public curiosities about coins,
stewardship of inherited collections, the relationship between coin age and value, the effect of precious metal value upon coin value, and valuing non-monetary coins and grading of coins, such as determining the value of a collection Many other topics of interest will be covered, involving historic factors in numismatics including historic changes in US currency, local
currency history, Civil War and WW II currency, commemorative coins, and the history of numismatics. The fundamentals of numismatics are presented by members of the Madison County Coin Club (MCCC) as a service to the community.
