More than 60 years after it was first performed, Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot continues to challenge and puzzle us. In this play, two men wait for someone named Godot to show up; while doing so, they sing, dance, tell stories, discuss philosophy, and interact with passers-by, among other things—and they do it all twice. Participants will discuss the text itself, read brief critical reactions, and view several performances in an attempt to understand why Beckett’s Godot is often considered the most important play of the 20th-century.
