Sitting beside the Holmes, Warrens, Brandeises, and Marshalls were the “also-sat” Justices – the Supreme Court Backbenchers – most of us have never heard of. One Justice of the United States Supreme Court served time in a debtor’s prison during his term on the highest bench in the land. The annual photograph of the Justices was skipped one year because one Justice refused to be photographed with a Jewish Justice. Spend some time learning about the fascinating lives and unusual philosophies of our lesser-known Justices.
