A Brief History of Ukraine

March 14, 2023 @ 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm

Instructor: Yaryna Zhurba

This will be a short course on Ukraine’s history, a country very much in the news. Since there are very few Ukrainian studies in U.S. academia, no wonder that Ukraine had been something like a terra incognito in people’s minds before the current war. The program consists of three sessions that are 90 minutes each. Recommended Book: The Gates of Europe: A History of Ukraine by Serhii Plokhy. Febuary 21—Early Ukraine’s history—from Kyiv Rus until XIX century. March 14—“Bloodlands”—Ukraine’s history from WWI until collapse of Soviet Union. April 4—Ukraine’s history since Independence restoration 1991.
