36-Planning Your Vote

September 15 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

The League of Women Voters will present a program entitled “Make a Voting Plan That Breaks Through Voting Barriers.” This presentation will guide participants through the practical steps of creating a personal voting plan: checking voter registration, understanding absentee voting options, confirming polling locations and election schedules, researching candidates, arranging transportation, and ensuring proper voter identfication. In addition to outlining these steps, the presentation will address the real-world barriers that can prevent many citizens from successfully voting. Special consideration will be given to challenges faced by voters with disabilities who encounter physical, systemic, and informational obstacles. Finally, it will examine the hurdles faced by young voters, including Alabama’s opt-in voter registration process, the lack of auomatic voter registration or early voting, and legal restrictions on assistance with absentee ballot applications. By combining practical planning tools with clear information about these barriers, the League aims to empower more Alabamians to participate fully and confidently in the voting process.
