47-Huntsville Walking Tour – 1
Downtown Huntsville Tour Group Onre: Led by Katie Stamps, Preservation Planner for the City of Huntsville, the Discover Downtown Huntsville walking tour showcases the history and evolution of Huntsville through its downtown commercial district. From Huntsville’s early settlement to the Space Race and beyond, you’ll see how architecture, businesses, development projects and stories shaped our city. While not a local historic district, many of the buildings you’ll see are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, thanks to preservation efforts in the 1970s and 1980s. Drawing from National Register nominations, Sanborn Fire Insurance maps, photographs, and other primary sources, this tour offers a rich look at Huntsville’s past—just steps from Courthouse Square. Bring whatever you’re comfortable carrying! Water, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and light snacks are always a good idea. Fall weather can be unpredictable in Alabama, so be sure to check the forecast ahead of time to dress accordingly. Tour will begin at 216 West Side Square; Huntsville, AL 35801. Min/Max: 5/35
