This LearningQUEST program, honoring the Alabama Territorial Bicentennial, is an introduction to the year-long event.

How did Alabama get its distinctive shape? What are the historic origins of the various segments of Alabama’s diverse boundary lines? With detailed views of early Alabama maps, this presentation will show how unusual natural features, early native American hunters, colonial aspirations, several meticulous surveyors, some eager land speculators, a few ambitious politicians, and a bit of international arm-wrestling all contributed to the shaping of Alabama’s distinctive borders.

Questions and answers will follow this 50-minute presentation.

This program is open to the public.
