The course will start with the basic tools for writing creative fiction. Participant will learn the elements of a story, including plot, character, setting, scenes, and beginnings and endings – as well as the tools used such as metaphor, simile, analogy, and alliteration. Participants will receive a writing prompt at the end of each class to write a fiction story of fewer than 1,000 words to bring with them (and be prepared to read aloud) at the next meeting. For the first meeting, students are asked to bring any short story of 800 words or less they have written about anything to read to the group.
