This class explores the meaning of physical laws, electricity and magnetism, electromagnetic radiation, special relativity, and material response to electromagnetic fields. Class members will be introduced to people who have made accomplishments in this field and learn about some of the key experiments. They will learn how conflicting descriptions of electrodynamic phenomena led to Einstein’s special relativity, E = mc2, and what the speed of light is in different materials.
