Gothic chills and thrills await this fall in four films filled with gaslit shadows and mysterious menace! We begin with a classic adaptation of Jane Eyre (1943), starring Joan Fontaine and Orson Welles. Next, Ingrid Bergman experiences the original “gaslighting” in Gaslight (1944), co-starring Charles Boyer and Joseph Cotten. Merle Oberon and Laird Cregar then headline in The Lodger (1944), a story inspired by Jack the Ripper. Dorothy McGuire plays the heroine in our final Gothic thriller, The Spiral Staircase (1946), which also features George Brent and the legendary Ethel Barrymore.
