This program offers participants an introduction to important aspects of a local treasure – Maple Hill Cemetery. A slice of Huntsville’s fascinating history will be presented by: Jane Hamilton Childs, Albert Lane, Samuel Moore, and George Steele. Attendees will learn of efforts to save Athens College during the Civil War; become aware of a renowned artist with work displayed in the Hermitage and the Smithsonian; hear about the owner of a champion butter-producing cow; and learn about a self- taught architect who introduced the Greek revival style to the city. All four residents are buried in Maple Hill Cemetery.
