This course will address the lessons learned from rhetoricians through time: Gorgias, 400 BCE, to Kristeva, 1979. The preservation of public speech and writing allows people today to appreciate the philosophical and intellectual progress of humankind over vast periods of time. This class will present some well-known rhetoricians and introduce new ones, with lectures, textual readings, and discussions.
