This course introduces similarities and differences between Japanese Zen-Buddhism and Western philosophy, especially the thought of Martin Heidegger. Topics discussed include the critique of the human self, time and evanescence, the limits of rationality and conceptual language, our immersion in the cosmos, and, most importantly, the cultivation of a non-judgmental openness to the infinitude of the world.
